The Quest for a Deadlift PR

Last week, first attempt at a PR in over a month. Month before I struggled hitting 415 sumo. I have been on a 5×5 programming for about a month in between and decided to take a crack at another PR. I went through a few warm-up sets and slowly began building towards my PR. Stepped under the bar at 415, hit it easily! I figured, “Hell, why not try 425?”. Took a few minutes to recover and find the right mehtal song to blare in my headphones…stepped back under the bar and pulled. Now…usually when I fail a PR, I can’t even get the bar off the ground. I’ll be a bit worn out and have no chance at the pull. This time was different. Got the bar just under my knees, and failed the lockout, which has never happened to me before. I felt defeated. I wanted 425 badly. So now I am on my quest for 425, and I won’t be stopped.

Saturday I decided to go in for some accessory work. I normally don’t do rack pulls, but I felt it was necessary to start working them in after that last PR attempt. Surprisingly  I put in some serious reps at some very good weight, even maxing at 505. I’m going to work back into my 5×5 sets the next month and try again for 425 with adding rack pulls on the weekend. I’m interested to see the results!
